WWICS Celebrates 7th Anniversary:

CHANDIGARH: The Worldwide Immigration Consultancy Services (WWICS), a leading company specialising
in Canadian immigration and settlement, celebrated its seventh anniversary on Saturday. Having 33 offices in India and Canada, the company has plans to open more offices in New York, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai soon,
a press release of the company said. The company recently opened the Canadian Institute of Computer Science

NRI held for duping WWICS

SASNAGAR: - Five days a landed in India on a sponsored trip to work out the details of on marketing research immigration company, Dr Raja Bikram Pal Lamba is cooling his heels in police custody. The 58-year-old nonresident Indian from Canada, driven by his weakness to impress high-profile people in society had planned to make it big by duping the proprietors of an immigration company, Worldwide Immigration Consultancy Services.
He made his pay around Rs 5 lakh for his hospitality before his dream was shattered. Described as a high-profile impostor by the police, his profile was enough to impress anyone.
A doctorate in English, Dr Lamba, who migrated to Canada last year, convinced the immigration company to
design their project for marketing at their resort at Karoran village near here. Everything was going smooth but a slight mistake by the impostor landed him in police custody. Col B.S. Sandhu, proprietor of the immigration company, said Dr Lamba had said he was a 1964 batch bureaucrat who sought premature retirement. His profile included his stint in the Prime Minister's Office and as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh.
Claiming his connection with chief secretaries of different provinces, he had claimed to knowing a couple of senior bureaucrats of Punjab. After his claimed visit Punjab bureaucrat yesterday, who had gone abroad, Col Sandhu got suspicious and started making queries. All five days after he landed in India on November 10, he stayed in full
luxury paid for by his sponsors. His visiting card read President and CEO of Toronto Consultancy Group. Questioning by the police revealed another facet of Dr Lamba's life. After doing his Masters in English in 1964,
he worked as lecturer in DAV College here before moving to Kurukshetra Regional College. From 1969 to 1982,
he remained at Desh Bandhu College, Delhi.
He worked with different companies from 1983 to 1999 before moving to Canada. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Mr Devinder Singh Sandhu of the immigration company, the police has registered a case under Sections 170, 406 and 420 of the IPC. He was today remanded in one day police custody by the Duty Magistrate, Kharar.[TheTribune : 16-11-2k ]


Man held for impersonation by WWICS

SAS NAGAR: The Mohali police arrested on Wednesday, a person who was allegedly impersonating as a retired IAS officer of UP cadre and cheated the director of a leading immigrations consultancy service of Rs 3.5 lakh Dewinder Sandhu, Director WWICS, had lodged a complaint that Vikram Pal Sing Lamba (58), posing as a
retired IAS officer claimed that he had worked in tie Prime Minister's office during the tenure of lndira Gandhi. He promised Sandhu to get the jobs of WWICS done on priority basis by using his influence in the bureaucracy and government circles.
Sandhu claimed that he had spent Rs 3.5 lakh on the accused which included business class air fare from Canada
to India and the boarding and lodging in Delhi and Chandigarh. The accused has an Indian passport with landed immigration of Canada a d is believed to be running a consultancy firm in Canada. The police had registered the complaint on November 14 and arrested the accused on Wednesday. He has been remanded to one day police custody.[The Tribune: 16-11-2k ]

 

Dr.Lamba denies cheating WWICS

SASNAGAR: A non-resident Indian, Dr Bikram Singh Lamba, who was arrested by the local police for allegedly cheating a Chandigarh based immigration company, today claimed that he had been implicated in the case by the Punjab police at the behest of the proprietor of the company. He said he had been engaged to work out details of a project at the resort of the company at Karoran (Nayagaon). Addressing a press conference here, he alleged that he had been forced to bribe certain officials so as to undertake the project which allegedly involved converting reserved forest land into leisure activities. In a written statement submitted to the National Human Rights Commission, copies of which were given to mediapersons, he alleged that at the behest of the immigration company, Worldwide Immigration Consultancy Services, the SAS Nagar police illegally detained him for more than 48 hours and was not allowed to drink water.
He said: "The police officials at the Phase 1 police station told me that I was lucky that a case of murder was not registered against me". Stating that he was a successful consultant based at Toronto, he was a qualified person having reputation in his area of specialisation. A visibly upset Dr Lamba said had I been a citizen of Canada, the police would not have dared touch me. "Is it the way the Parkash Singh Badal led-government welcomes the NRIs to seek investment in Punjab.
I will advise the NRI's to seek protection before visiting Punjab. The Station House Officer at the police station
who is supposed to act on the NRI help line was harassing me.
I was not allowed to talk to my counsel or my relatives before the FIR against me was registered. I was harassed
at every step and nobody listened to me. Now I have been granted bail I will take the case to a logical conclusion" He claimed that he was the only Indian to be invited by the Prime Minister of Canada as part of the team to attract investment to that country. "How can a persons like me be humiliated, tortured and victamised", he questioned.
He claimed the police had kept his passport and harassing me.
He said the Deputy Commissioner, Ropar, had marked an inquiry into the matter and the Subdivisional Magistrate (SDM) had called him on November 27. The NRI has also approached the National Human Rights Commission and the Union Home Ministry. The proprietor of the company, Mr B.S. Sandhu, when contacted, said Dr Lamba was playing all sorts of tricks to save himself in the case of cheating registered against him. Mr Sandhu said:
"There is not even an iota of truth in the allegations made by Dr Lamba. He said Dr Lamba had approached the Canadian High Commission to reach a compromise with them. He said the challan of the FIR registered against
